…and it’s gone…

Well today, I hope I can finally get my new computer monitor. After half a week trying to find a deal, I’ve found one. It’s way over my budget and with my employment situation.

My eyes are set on a 20 inch screen from ASUS though I might try and find a deal in 22 inch for the sake of having the same screen size as my now broken LG Flatron which has been with me since I got this rig. With this monitor, I can’t help but to remember all the other problems I had with this computer and all the other computers I use to own. With this gaming rig, it marks my first computer dedicated to video games. I assembled it with products I knew would last me well beyond the manufacturer’s warranty. Just under a few years of ownership, my first problem arose with the graphics card from PNY Technologies. The suspicious part of this malfunction was the fact that the warranty was to only last for 3 years and it just so happened to die out. The refurbishing sunk me down some money and they returned me the graphics card which was still malfunction then asking for more money to fix it. I lost a lot of confidence and trust through their customer service as well as the longevity of the product. Next up was my 500 GB Seagate hard drive, which was much of a relief in service compared to PNY. My hard drive malfunctioned as it went on extended warranty. I sent it off and it came back working properly. So far the hard drive is the only refurbished item that managed to stay operational well beyond it’s years. With my monitor now going dark on me, my approach a bit different.

Due to the sheer weight and side, I don’t think it would be feasible for me to get it refurbished (also I lost the receipt and the 3 year warranty is up). So I tried looking for a repair shop near my house. Unfortunately the only results are either far north or not online. So I’m thinking today I’m going to find some places that repair and sell monitors. Hopefully I can find someone who can fix it and have it under the price of a new monitor. Though repairing it would provide me the unknown of how long the repair job would last. It could be optimistically years or briefly days, also the risk of having the repair job to be a dud then having to just buy another monitor anyways. Unfortunately I don’t know a trusted electrician for the job, so I’m putting my money on just tossing the monitor and getting a brand new monitor. The irony of the fact that I can fix a computer here but not a monitor.

People talk so mighty about recycling but companies aren’t showing anyone outside their company umbrella to fix their devices. So as the consumer, we all somewhat suffer from losing money and throwing out more trash than it’s needed. It would reduce so much electronic waste if there were technicians to do this kind of physical work. Considering there are some people out there that just want to save as much money as possible for their computer, it’s a good business to hold up high than just selling next year’s wares. Sigh, as Niko Bellic once said, “Capitalism is a dirty business.”

Vent your frustrations comments below. Until next time readers, stay optimistic.

Stuck without games, once again

You think you are sitting pretty in you life and it gives you a quick realization how fragile life could really be. Though familiar with bad luck, it’s untimely inconvenient for my monitor to pop something internally. I’m fairly sure either something shorted out, though I’m still getting power to the monitor. This 22” I got more than half a decade finally gave in Saturday morning; which makes it the third component to malfunction in the past few years. I knew someday the day would come when things won’t work as well for my computer or I would have to replace certain parts. Unfortunately a bad time for me to be maintaining my rig.

The weekend wasn’t as tough as the last time I had gaming withdrawal, though the upcoming week could be a bit rough. From what I’ve learned, staying positive is helpful until I feel calmer and less agitated. Also finding ways to keep busy. Aside from finding a job, I’m considering to get into some volunteering. The past few weeks, I’ve been slowly looking into volunteering along with finding some employment. I did find a volunteer opportunity a few weeks ago, though I must admit it’s pretty far by walking. So I’m looking to volunteer a bit closer to home. I hope get something considering now I’m fairly idle.

Though starting to be shyly shaky and having the drifting thought of video games, keeping positive seems to be working. Good thoughts, happy thoughts. Maybe a library visit today would help me clear my head.

Until next week, happy thoughts!
