Getting all Quarks Enterprise up in this!! (Dilithium Farming 2.0)

So I think it’s time to revamp my old post from February about dilithium farming. Here’s a link if you haven’t read it; for any Star Trek Online player, this post could be a nice one stop shop for the dilithium farming solutions you wanted. Well, it’s outdated and this post is suppose to be about updating a bit. This time, no references or allusions to the shows and just straight up, in your face, “here’s some dilithium” farming. Except for the fact that lobi crystals are more useless than a massive surplus of self-sealing stem bolts (…crappy DS9/Voyager reference).

Lets begin with the daily missions. As the name suggests, you can do them once per day unless you picked up the mission and finished it after a day later. In which case, you get 2 missions for the day but it’s really an average of 1 per day. Anyways here’s the list as quoted from my old post sourced from STOWiki:

480 unrefined dilithium for each mission (Based on http://www.stowiki.org/Daily):

  • Rescue Deferi captives (Breen series, Deferi Sector Block)
  • History 102 (FED)/Learning the Lore(KDF)
  • Emancipation (Deferi Sector Block)
  • Satellite Repair
  • Sh’mar – Distress Signal
  • Defense Contract

Total of 2880.

1440 unrefined dilithium for each mission:

  • Chart the B’tran Cluster (This is a Vice Admiral daily)
  • Explore Strange New Worlds (Best to do this with the one above)
  • Aiding the Deferi
  • Salvage Dispute (only if you collect and keep the computer core fragments from “Defense Contract”, requires 10)

Total of an absolute 4320. 5760, if you can do the Salvage Dispute repeatable.

Along with these missions, some new missions with the new Tholians and ever so dreaded Dilithium Asteroid mining daily in Beta Ursae.

So in Eta Eridani in the new Nukara Prime ground. You have two daily missions, one to collect minerals and another to kill Tholians. From my memory, it’s 250 either way. So you need 250 kills or 250 minerals. That’s a whole lot for just 640 dilithium. It takes a good 1-2 hours to solo what you need unless you have a group set up to handle the slaughter.

In Beta Ursae by DS9 and Bajor, there is a not so new mining instance. For about 1 hour of work, you get a depressing 100-500 at best. This is a minigame so you will have to be super involved in solving a spatial puzzle, match the orientation and size of the triangle in the allotted time.

On some oldies but goodies, DOFF’s and STF’s. So Duty Officers are an excellent way to just blaze through the work. Though it may take a long time, you have to just spend a good 20 minutes max in a few sectors to fill out your work assignments. 20 at a time including completed, so:

(In Progress+Completed)-Sick Bay=20 assignments

Upside to DOFF’s would also be that you can easily work on CXP levelling to get those special bonuses from the DOFF store in the respective academies. This is just special DOFF’s you will never get from any other way. Aside the point, the assignments:

  • Turn Over Contraband (DS9/ESD/Academies) – 2000 Dilithium (Requires 5 contraband)
  • Relocate Colonists (Anywhere under “Operations”) – 500/1500 (Rare to critical but still worth it since colonists are useless)
  • Formal Gift Exchange (Beta Ursae, requires Incense) – 250 (Can crit, forgot how much on crit but I’m going to say 2000)
  • Defuse Mines (Under “Engineering”) – 50/250/1000? (Can crit but would require pretty damn good DOFF’s)

There’s also some inconsistencies with this list. For Gift Exchange, I’m not quite sure what the crit is. For Defuse Mines, there are 4 variations. Two Uncommon missions which give you 50 per mission and crits 500 I think. Then there is two Rares I think that give your 250 per mission with a crit of 500 or 1000; I haven’t critical’d the rare one but I’ve seen one or the other and they don’t appear at the same time as their uncommon counterparts. According to the wiki page, there is a repeatable after completing a certain point in a star cluster assignment chain. Each cluster has a chain, so you might want to get started since these chain missions have a cooldown of 1 day per cluster.  I haven’t done this one but the wiki says, the Grant Passage To Colonists will provide you with 500 dilithium and 1000 on critical.

Now with Special Task Force missions, you have a cooldown of one hour per mission which isn’t so bad since it’s a dungeon run. The ground runs I find are the easiest, but I’ve seen people say Space is better. Either case, the output after completion is the same. On normal difficulty, 480 dilithium is given plus chance of some STF loot. On Elite, you get 1440 dilithium. So if you can blaze through all 3 of them in 1 hour (cooldown is shared with the same mission of different difficulty), you get minimum of 1440 to max of 4320. But note, that amount is based on if you do all three in any combination within an hour. Some of the missions do take 1 hour to finish and maybe more if you get a really weak team. The loot however is pretty sweet. With the EDC (Encrypted Data Chips), you can cash in 10 at a time for 1056. Each mission yields about 1 or 2 and any EDC mob drops, the mob drops are rare and sometimes gets competitive when in a public team. With Salvage and Tech loots, they will yield 1056 per Salvage/Tech except for the Prototype variants. In which case, you get 2304 per. However Prototype stuff is super rare and are really handy in customizing your ship with the best gear time can get you without buying them. So spend your prototype salvage and tech very carefully!

If you want to keep a short list of stuff that give dilithium and taking notes, I beat you to it. Here’s my list:

480 unrefined dilithium for each mission (Based on http://www.stowiki.org/Daily):

  • Rescue Deferi captives (Breen series, Deferi Sector Block)
  • History 102 (FED)/Learning the Lore(KDF)
  • Emancipation (Deferi Sector Block)
  • Satellite Repair
  • Sh’mar – Distress Signal
  • Defense Contract

Total of 2880. Assigned as A variable

Assigned as B variable.

DOFF missions (100+ Dilithium per 20 assignments):

  • Turn Over Contraband (DS9/ESD/Academies) – 2000 Dilithium (Requires 5 contraband)
  • Relocate Colonists (Anywhere under “Operations”) – 500/1500 (Rare to critical but still worth it since colonists are useless)
  • Formal Gift Exchange (Beta Ursae, requires Incense) – 250 (Can crit, forgot how much on crit but I’m going to say 2000)
  • Defuse Mines (Under “Engineering”) – 50/250(Rare reward/Crit from uncoomon)/1000(Rare crit?) (Can crit but would require pretty damn good DOFF’s)

DOFF Total assigned as C variable.

STF Missions/Rewards (Redeemable At DS9):

  • Normal Completion – 480
  • Elite Completion – 1440
  • Normal Loot (Common/Rare Tech/Salvage) – 1056
  • 10 Encrypted Data Chips – 1056
  • Prototype Tech/Salvage (Redeem at your own risk, found in Elite missions) – 2304

Assigned as Z variable.

Miscellaneous Missions:

  • Nukara Prime 250 Kill/gather – 640 (Y Variable)
  • Asteroid Mining – Hundreds? (X variable)

Conclusive calculation with 8320 maximum (excluding unsure rewards listed). 9760, if you can do the Salvage Dispute repeatable. With Nukara grind dailies, 11940.

Super mathy part (Ignore if you want to not get a headache. But good if you want to calculate):

A = Total dailies completed

B = Total dailies completed

C = Total of DOFF Missions

D = Dilithium ore

DRefined = Dilithium that can be refined

X = Mining vairable

Y = Total Nukara Prime Dailies

Z = Total STF cashed into dilithium

A(480)

B(1440)

C = [5(CNormalReward)+CListedSpecial…]

Y(640)

Z = 480(ZNormalDifficulty)+1440(ZEliteDifficulty)+1056(ZNormalLoot)+2304(ZLootPrototype)+1056(ZEDC/10)

The formula is…

D = [A(480) + B(1440) + Y(640)] + (C + Z)

Optimally, total is…

D = (11940) + (C + Z)

Lastly for those still hanging on, I’ve completed testing my spreadsheet for calculating dilithium and such. It comes in handy to find out how long and how much you need in terms of dilithium and time. Right here at box.net. It has two versions, one’s for OpenOffice and it’s variants; the other is just Microsoft Excel formatted. The formulas should be retained, if not let me know through Box.net or here and I’ll fix it. It didn’t take me long to set it up, but I’ve been testing it so it works as intended so there isn’t any weird things happening. The wording is out dated but if it seems to be a major problem, Cryptic points preceded Zen points.

As for tips and tricks…

  • Be persistent. Cryptic does release items to force you to spend a lot of time to farm for what appears to get good stuff. The imperative for the store should be want and not need. If you need it, it should’ve been part of the game than a supplement to it as a shop item. So if you want to get a particular item, go for it and literally pay no attention to anything else.
  • Farm bots boats. Build a ship that will drop mobs quick. And balance it between speed, weapon strength, shielding. It should be able to move and shoot fast, shoot hard, and can tank. I found the Odyssey and Defiant classes are the best; but the Defiant is ultimately great since it can load Dual Heavy cannons, turn on a dime and with the Store Refit/Retrofit you can tank dailies with it.
  • Faster you finish one, less time you will need to spend. Self explanatory, you mission one mission quick means the less time you need to really stay in game farming.
  • Surplus does not mean more dilithium. The logic that if you gain more, you receive more dilithium. That’s partially flawed since you have to refine your dilithium. So no matter how much ore you have, you still have a cap of 8000 refined per day. So regardless of having 1,000,000 ore, you only get 8000 in return on a daily basis. However you do gain this surplus where you are technically rewarded less time to farm. Meaning with this large amount, you can afford not doing dailies and just cash in. You can argue that this would be losing potential dilithium, still untrue. You are just gathering a surplus regardless, just giving you more time to waste. Might as well use the surplus to cash in and enjoy life outside Star Trek Online. Surplus dilithium ore is handy for days when your just don’t want to grind.

Happy farming!
