I was never into the show, both the original and the 2003 reimagined series by Syfy. I was more that Star Trek (only after the original series) and Stargate follower. But since Battlestar Galactica Online came out, I’m a bit stunned and somewhat interested.
Just reached open beta this week, BSGO is an MMORPG where Cylons and Colonials battle for space supremacy. Dogfights in this PvP (player versus player) and PvE (player versus environment) setting makes it challenging to fight alone. With a balance of industrial mining and instance combat, it provides a Eve Online feel without cost.
My first five days in this game have been pretty eventful. The tutorial missions really help enforce the combat aspects of the game such as formation flying, defending, attacking and missions. Though at the start, the tutorial is more mouse oriented rather than keyboard oriented though the game supports both. When I started to sign up, I wouldn’t believe the graphics were that great. It is a browser game so I was expecting isometric 3D or 2D side-scrolling. All it takes is a download for the Unity Web Player, believe it or not. Downside is a likelihood of team imbalances at certain times and slight lag issues with bugs since it was released this week.
So far I’ve been most of the game pat down. Slow exp gain but lots of fun going around with people and doing stuff. I recommend this if you’re into sci-fi.
